Hematopathology

Hematopathology refers to diseases of the blood, bone marrow, lymph nodes, and spleen. It is a complex field and accurate diagnosis depends upon expert analysis and appropriate utilization of ancillary testing. Frequent communication between pathologist and clinician is of the utmost importance to ensure precise diagnoses that inform therapeutic decision-making.

We employ fellowship-trained, board certified hematopathologists with experience in the evaluation of challenging lymph node and bone marrow cases. Flow cytometry is performed on appropriate cases and interpreted by Western & Pinnacle Pathology physicians, ensuring meaningful correlation with the morphologic and clinical findings. Through our reference lab partners, cytogenetic and molecular testing is available and performed as necessary.

The World Health Organization (WHO) classification of hematologic malignancies has gained widespread acceptance and greatly enhanced our understanding of hematologic disease. Accurate diagnosis relies upon correctly integrating the clinical and laboratory findings with the morphology and results of ancillary testing. Due to the large number of ancillary studies that are sometimes necessary, we believe it is imperative that pathology reports provide a clear diagnosis while integrating all relevant data into a single concise document.
