Breast Pathology

Modern breast diagnostic pathology requires broad expertise and a full-service laboratory able to perform specialized ancillary testing. Our laboratory team and pathologists have extensive experience processing, staining, and interpreting breast biopsies and resection specimens.  Cases are reviewed daily during an intra-departmental conference and the vast majority of results are available within 24 hours.

A broad range of ancillary testing is available through our in-house College of American Pathologists (CAP)-approved laboratory. ER, PR and HER2 testing by immunohistochemistry (IHC) is performed on all carcinomas and results are typically available within 24 hours of initial diagnosis.  HER2 testing is performed in accordance with an FDA-approved protocol and in strict compliance with the American Society of Clinical Oncologists and College of American Pathologists (ASCO/CAP) joint testing guidelines. ER, PR and HER2 testing by IHC is interpreted utilizing an advanced computer-based cell image analysis system. Confirmatory HER2 fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) testing is performed on appropriate cases.

Our pathologists routinely participate in multi-disciplinary case conferences and we value a collaborative approach to patient care. The physicians at Western & Pinnacle Pathology are proactive members of the health care team dedicated to providing the highest quality and standard of care to our patients and clinical colleagues.
